My Angel Goes with Me
She’s just a little thing but she carries along with me lots of energy and a feeling of being protected. I’m never alone.
Many people carry some kind of mascot for their travels or backpacking adventures. I decided mine would be a guardian angel. I enjoy her wild and free hair, mismatched colors and purple wings!
She needs a name. I reflected on her, riding along on my backpack in June 2017, when I hiked in Yosemite during high water. My dearly departed grandmother Mary suddenly came to mind. She would giggle with delight when I used to relate to her my adventures. There was always loads of pure love and joy in her eyes. My garden angel…..I’ll call her Mary!
She’s small, adding a half ounce (13 grams), to my weight. Yes, weight really matters when I will carry everything on my back for 500 miles walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain (starting August 29, 2017, watch for my posts). She’s worth her weight in gold, and she’ll come along with me for every future adventure as long as her hair doesn’t pull out on the carabiner she hangs from!
With Angel Mary I’ll also be regularly reminded that all the great saints and sages throughout time accompany and watch over me always. I am never alone.
