Nobody can resist the cuteness of the silly bird. It clumbsily falls off the 1000′ (300 meter) high cliffs, a delight to watch. Of course the viewing spot hanging over the ledge is a little dodgy, as one creeps slowly out on one’s tummy trying to get a view while keeping the bulk of one’s body on solid ground.
I laugh out loud at them. Their vocal call is like a little lawn mower getting going. There are no predators here so they have no fear and allow me an up-close viewing.
I admire them. They launch from the cliff, fat birds with stubby wings, trusting that the air will catch under their wings before they fall to their death on the rocks far below. Off they go, complete trust in this moment, in this life, in a right purpose.
If you ever get a chance, the cliffs at Làtrabjarg, Iceland, are highly worth your visit.
My Youtube channel is here with a video of the sounds they make.
