Camino Blessings Begin
I had the joy of visiting a few days with my friend Betty who lives in southern France. She and I were high school friends many years ago so it was great fun to reconnect while also visiting her local region (read more on my other recent posts).
We visited several delightful places during my three-day stay, but today we drove to see the countryside and visit a couple villages along the Le Puy Camino de Santiago route, the main path for the holy Pilgrimage Way through France. I will begin walking my Camino Walk in two days, starting in the small village of St. Jean Pied de Port, where the several French routes meet up and continue over the tall Pyrenees mountains into Spain.
We stopped several times to visit villages along the Le Puy route. I delighted at the abundant Camino markings. The above map on stone shows the many traditional Camino routes.
As we drove through the open countryside in the very hot heat we come upon a hitchhiking young woman with a backpack. We stop. She’s a Camino Pilgrim, hot and eager to go the last few kilometers to the next town where she will stay the night after a full day of hiking. We give her a lift and she exhales appreciation at being in an air conditioned car for a few minutes ride. I’ve met my first Pilgrim!
The young Pilgrim stopped at this small village of Nasbinals which has a very beautiful old church that has taken in pilgrims for centuries. More of that simple, charming French beauty in the stone buildings.
Sign at a Camino Church which reads “Give us this day our daily bread.”
I’m on a train to Lourdes as I write, it seems fitting to begin my journey with a blessing at Lourdes from Divine Mother in the expression of Our Lady.
My Camino walk is a fundraiser for a new Temple of Light, to be completed in 2019, a building which will bring more Light and inspiration in the world. For my part I’ll walk and walk every day for 500 miles (780 km), and pray every day in every church for each person who sponsors my Pilgrimage Walk; all proceeds go to the Temple of Light. I’d really love for you to walk every day in spirit with me, but you can also jump in at any stage of my 500 miles (780 km).
